National student number (NSN)
Statistical information required by the Tertiary Education Commission, for example: gender, ethnicity, last school, highest qualification.

We collect personal information in a variety of ways. We may collect personal information about you:
Whenever you interact with us, either in-person, by email, phone, through our websites, or by other means (e.g. postal mail)
From publicly available sources, such as social media
Whenever you choose to make personal information available to us, including when you authorise someone else to provide us with your personal information.
We may also collect personal information about you from others who are permitted or required to share your personal information, such as:

We may use your personal information for various purposes, including to:
Manage the business of NMIT
Comply with the Education and Training Act 2020 and other legislation relating to maintenance of records
Supply information to Government agencies and other organisations as set out below

The Education New Zealand
The New Zealand Qualifications Authority
The Ministry of Social Development (student loans and allowances)
The Inland Revenue Department(student loans)
Immigration New Zealand and the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment(for non-New Zealand citizens or permanent residents)
Agencies that support some students through scholarships, payment of fees or other awards
Include your personal details in the National Student Index (e.g. your name, date of birth and residency). These may be used in an authorised information matching programme with the New Zealand Birth Register.
When required by law, we release information to government agencies, including the New Zealand Police, the Department of Justice, the Ministry of Social Development, and the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC).
Where you choose not to make personal information available to us, that may mean:
we are unable to progress certain matters with you
we are unable to make available certain services or features to you
it affects your experience with us
it affects how we would otherwise engage with you
You have the right to ask for a copy of any personal information we hold about you, and to ask for it to be corrected if you think it is wrong.
