A former Youth Guarantee Tutor at Marlborough Community College (Comcol), Courtney has recently joined NMIT to teach the Foundation Skills in Sport and Recreation Programme (Level 2) at the Blenheim Campus.

Born and raised in Blenheim, Courtney's interest in sport was sparked at an early age by her father who was a semi-professional rugby player.

"I’ve played rugby since I was five years old and played for the women’s Makos before having children," says Courtney.

With over ten years experience coaching sport within the Blenheim community, Courtney is currently studying towards a Certificate in Sport (Level 4).

Courtney has also worked as a Youth Guarantee Tutor Marlborough Community College (Comcol).

"It is really important to me that everyone, no matter their background or circumstance, has the opportunity to participate in sport, "says Courtney, "My class is an inclusive environment where students are encouraged to try new things and move out of their comfort zone."

Courtney says the Foundation Skills in Sport and Recreation Programme (Level 2) is very hands-on with students getting regular trips to the gym to work out and gain coaching experience. Students also get the opportunity to go sea kayaking and undertake a ropes course.

"I enjoy seeing the students in my class open up and thrive," says Courtney, "I love giving them new experiences through sport and helping them gain qualifications."

"Students who study sport through Youth Guarantee at NMIT will be supported to develop skills in sport and take on new challenges."
