Gain real-world experience at our on-campus salon. Fully equipped with the latest technology and products, you’ll perfect a professional standard of skills without leaving campus.

Hands-on learning is our focus, and you will have access to our world-class facilities and highly experienced and attentive tutors. Work on clients with the support of your kaimahi (tutor) and build confidence in your hairdressing skills. You'll learn reception duties, shampooing, applying treatments and colours, and different hairstyling, and cutting techniques.

When you graduate, you will have the knowledge, practical skills and attributes to contribute to the effective operation of a salon and perform a range of salon and client services. Become a cut above the rest with experience with real clients in a real-world setting, making you highly competitive in the job market.

Entry requirements

Open Entry if the delegated authority at the campus/site is satisfied that the applicant has the capability to complete the requirements of the programme.

English language requirements

All applicants (international and domestic) for whom English or te reo Māori is not a first language need to provide evidence that they have the necessary English language proficiency required for the programme. International applicants are required to have an IELTS score of 5 (general or academic) with no individual band lower than 5 from one test taken in the preceding two years, or an equivalent described in NZQA Rules(external link).

Structure and timetable

This programme runs for 34 weeks. The majority of classes are scheduled around school hours, starting at 9 am and finishing around 3.30 pm. At least one day a week will be a late night.

During your interview, as part of the application process, you will get more details about the timetable for the intake you are looking to study, and you will receive a full timetable before you begin your studies.
