Improve your understanding of te reo and tikanga Māori and develop the confidence to incorporate them into your everyday life.

This course will use engaging, welcoming and fun hands-on learning to develop your confidence with basic te reo Māori, better your pronunciation, and deepen your understanding of tikanga Māori.

During the Monday evening classes (2 hours), kaiako (tutors) will introduce you to cultural concepts and practices, pronunciation, greetings, songs and language, allowing you to understand and incorporate them into your world.

You will learn to:

  • Prepare and deliver a paku mihi
  • Learn and perform waiata
  • Learn and perform karakia, demonstrating an understanding of appropriate usage and associated tikanga
