The atmosphere was great, the food was amazing, and both diners and local charity, Big Brothers Big Sisters, benefited from a fund-raising degustation meal organised by NMIT’s Diploma in Hospitality Management students.

Spokesperson for the students, Jay Heyrick recently handed over a cheque for $1300 to Chelsea Routhan from Nelson Tasman Big Brothers Big Sisters, the charity nominated by the students to receive any profit from the event.

Chelsea says the donation is really appreciated as the organisation is completely reliant on sponsorships and contributions.
“The money will go towards recruitment, training and ongoing support of our mentoring programme,” she says. “We support around 200 active matches and have many more on our waitlist.”

The five-course dinner, with a menu tailored the reflect the seasons and local wines, was a sell out.
“It was a great evening, with delicious food— and it was nice that some of our sponsors and mentors also came along,” says Chelsea.
