Caroline Jones graduated from Rhodes University in South Africa, completing her classical training in painting with a Master’s of Fine Art degree in 1995.
Early in her career she won an award at the prestigious Absa Atelier Art Competition and painted professionally for 15 years before starting private painting and drawing classes in Nelson in 2006. From 2011 - 2014 she was an Arts' and Media tutor at NMIT and since 2015 has taught a number of drawing and painting short courses as part of the NMIT ACE programme. As a teacher Caroline is approachable and encouraging and enjoys keeping her classes lively and engaging.
Working mostly in oils and occasionally in charcoal, Jones’s own work is often large-scale invented cityscapes, depicting urban sprawl that is used as a metaphor, challenging the choices we make in our modern lifestyles. New Zealand landscape is another preferred subject matter where careful draughtsmanship is combined with an expressive style.
