To provide the student with the opportunity to experience the practical skills and knowledge of the Primary Industries of Viticulture, Horticulture, Forestry, Aquaculture and Conservation.
Student completing this course are able to: demonstrate knowledge of the rules for chainsaw use; describe rules relating to the transport and use of chainsaw fuel in accordance with accepted forestry industry practice; and describe Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and first aid requirements for chainsaw operators in accordance with accepted forestry industry practice.
Students completing this course are able to: disassemble and reassemble a chainsaw, and identify and explain the main function of components; demonstrate knowledge of factors that influence the operation of a chainsaw; prepare to operate a chainsaw; start and test a chainsaw; and use a chainsaw to make cuts.
The students will learn to apply principles of health and safety in the context of each primary industry sector. This course is practical and experiential; with students having the opportunity to learn through engaging in realistic and authentic tasks.
