Course Aim

The course is designed for students who have already completed the full STCW Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting course. This refresher course is designed to meet the STCW refresher training requirements for STCW Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting course in accordance with the provisions of Section A-VI/1-2 of the International convention on Standards of Training Certification and Watch-keeping for Seafarers (STCW) 1978, as amended.

Learning Outcomes 

On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Use various types of portable extinguishers.
  • Extinguish small fires such as electrical oil or propane fires.
  • Extinguish extensive fires with water using jet and spray nozzles.
  • Fight fire in smoke filled enclosed spaces wearing self-contained breathing apparatus.
  • Extinguish oil fires with fog applicator and spray nozzles, dry chemical or foam applicators using jet and spray nozzles.
  • Understand how high expansion foam is used to extinguish fires on board a vessel.
  • Extinguish fires with water fog or any other suitable fire-fighting agent in a simulated accommodation room or engine room fire and heavy smoke.
  • Extinguish oil fire with fog applicator and spray nozzles, dry chemical powder or foam applicators.
