Foundation Pathways

Foundation Skills are a great option if you want to re-engage with learning and gain the skills and confidence to enter the workforce or go on to study further. 

Here, you get to do the fun stuff. Rewrite your education experience and learn through a bunch of hands-on, practical, fun activities. 

We will help you discover your strengths, build up your skills, and develop a plan for your next steps. Our ultimate goal is for you to walk away with the confidence in yourself to succeed in further study, work, or other life ambitions.

Learn in a way that resonates with you, boosts your confidence, and sets you up with the skills to pursue further studies or to take your first step into employment. 

Vocational Pathway programmes are specifically tailored to support learners who left school early, those who require NCEA Level 2, or those who need a different approach to learning to boost their confidence in making future-forward decisions. 

To be considered for a Youth Guarantee-funded place, ākonga must first meet the following eligibility criteria: 

• Be aged 16 -24 years old at the start of the programme
  (or 15 years old with an early leaving exemption from school). 
• Be enrolled in an eligible programme. 
• Not hold a qualification higher than Level 2. 

Level 3 funding

Youth Guarantee funding at Level 3 is very limited. You will be notified if you have been allocated a Youth Guarantee-funded place.  

Tertiary Education Commission (Te Amorangi Mātauranga Matua) conditions of funding prioritise the following ākonga for the allocation of places: 

• Learners who study towards Level 1 and 2 qualifications through Youth Guarantee and progress to Level 3 study. 
• Learners with no or low (Level 1) prior achievement before enrolling in an eligible Youth Guarantee programme.
