This annual event is a highlight on the NMIT calendar, offering a unique opportunity to experience the diversity and talent within our arts community – and perhaps find a special gift or two for the holidays!
Held on the lawn outside the Student Centre at NMIT’s Nelson Campus, the day brings together a variety of handmade items, from ceramics, woodwork, and jewelry to hand-knitted creations and baked treats.
Each piece is crafted with care and skill as it is assessed as part of the Object Design course – led by Design Tutor Stefan Hanspach within the Bachelor of Arts and Media, whilst the market day itself is part of the Art and Media Communications course.
Among the featured artists is Desiree Lina, who will be showcasing her stunning moon photography and wood-lasered artworks. Her pieces capture the mystique of the moon in ways that highlight both its beauty and her unique artistic vision.
“My passion for photography was ignited when I inherited my aunt’s vintage 35mm camera,” she says.
“My fascination with the moon's waxing and waning phases, and the other worldly details of moondust and craters, led me to document its changing visage throughout the year, from mesmerizing lunar eclipses to enchanting super moons and seasonal wonders like the strawberry and harvest moon.”
Several students this year have been working with ceramics and pottery. This includes Jennifer Brennan, making bowls, Joseph Parilla creating cups and Brianna Heine making pocket ceramics. View the gallery below for a taste of what is on offer.
Come along to support our talented students, find one-of-a-kind items, and enjoy the community atmosphere. It’s the perfect chance to explore, appreciate, and take home a piece of NMIT’s artistic flair!
